RECAP | Holdgrafer’s gem leads to Otters’ shutout of Slammers
Joliet, Ill. – Tim Holdgrafer threw eight shutout innings to lead the Evansville Otters to a 5-0 victory over the Joliet Slammers on Saturday night at Duly Health and Care Field.
The righty from San Diego was nearly untouchable on the mound. He struck out eight and did not allow a hit out of the infield until the seventh inning. In total he allowed no earned runs with just three hits and two walks.
Holdgrafer has four wins on the young season, tied for the highest total in the Frontier League. His 2.03 ERA is tenth best in the league. He has allowed just two runs over his last 27 innings pitched.
Evansville scored first for the 18th straight game with a Jeffrey Baez solo home run in the fourth inning, his sixth home run of the year.
The Otters found insurance in the sixth inning when Ethan Skender tripled off the left field wall to score Noah Myers. Skender then scored on a sacrifice fly from Dakota Phillips.
Just an hour and a half away from his hometown of Metamora, IL, Skender put the game away with a two out two RBI hit up the middle in the seventh to extend the lead to five.
Skender pushed his hit streak to eleven games and accounted for 3 RBIs on Saturday.
Bryan Rosario stole two more bases to add to his league-leading 23 bags on the season.
Saturday marked Evansville’s fourth shutout of the season and Holdgrafer has been the starter in three of the four.
