Jose Mercado signed with the Otters heading into the 2021 season. Mercado is from Arecibo, Puerto Rico and spent two seasons in the Philadelphia Phillies organization. He was drafted in the 13th round of the 2018 MLB June Amateur Draft out of the Carlos Beltran Baseball Academy. Overall, with the Phillies East Gulf Coast League team, Mercado batted .167 in 56 games and 186 at-bats. He also eight extra-base hits and 13 RBIs.
