RECAP | Otters shutout Titans to complete sweep at Bosse Field
Evansville, Ind. – The Evansville Otters finished off a sweep of the Ottawa Titans, winning Thursday night 2-0 behind a Tim Holdgrafer shutout start and spectacular defense.
The Otters made three web gems in the field to help earn Evansville their first shutout of the season. In the second inning Otters’ third baseman Troy Viola made a leaping catch on a linedrive to rob the Titans of a base hit.
Kona Quiggle got in on the show in the fifth with a diving catch on a blooper in center field. He then threw to first to double up the Titan runner.
Viola capped off the defensive show in the sixth. With two Titans on and one out the former Purdue Boilermaker picked a line drive off the dirt, stepped on third base and fired across the diamond to first to complete the doubleplay.
Holdgrafer cruised on the mound with his defense making plays behind him. He earned the win with six shutout innings limiting the Titans to four hits. ??
The Evansville bullpen continued its scoreless streak after Holdgrafer exited. Henderson County high school grad Hunter Kloke pitched a scoreless seventh and eighth. Jake Polancic worked around two runners in the ninth for his second save of the season.
The Otters bullpen has not allowed a run in the past five games with 18.1 innings of scoreless baseball. Overall, the bullpen has allowed just one run in 23.1 innings this season.
The Otters took the lead in the third on a George Callil solo home run that snuck inside the left field foul pole. Evansville added insurance in the seventh as Jacob Olson’s double scored Jomar Reyes to make it 2-0.
Noah Myers added a hit to extend his hit streak to six games to start the season.
Evansville wraps up their home stand with a weekend series against the Trois-Rivieres Aigles. First pitch Friday and Saturday is 6:35 PM CT before a 12:35 PM first pitch on Sunday.
