RECAP | Vargas leads Otters to series clinching victory over Titans
Evansville, Ind. – The Evansville Otters terrific pitching continued Wednesday night as they clinched a series victory with a 5-2 win over the Ottawa Titans.
Jhon Vargas led the pitching performance, earning the victory in his first start as an Otter. The product of Midamerica Nazarene in Kansas struck out seven Titans over six innings while holding Ottawa to just two hits.
The Otters scored in the first inning for the fourth consecutive game. Dakota Phillips and Jeffrey Baez had the RBI base hits in the inning to give Evansville an early 2-0 lead.
Kona Quiggle hit a double in the fourth and came around to score the game winning run on an error. Quiggle added insurance for the Otters with a two RBI triple in the 7th inning.
The Otters bullpen continued its scoreless streak after Vargas exited the game. Leoni De La Cruz pitched a scoreless seventh before Kevin Davis worked a perfect eighth and ninth innings to close out the ballgame.
The Otters bullpen has not allowed a run in the past four games with 15.1 innings of scoreless baseball. Overall, the bullpen has allowed just one run in 20.1 innings this season.
Noah Myers extended his hitting streak to five games with a base hit in every game this season.
The Otters earned their first ever series victory over Ottawa after dropping the first ever series last year in Canada.
Evansville goes for a sweep of Ottawa on Thursday night with first pitch slated for 6:35 PM CT from Bosse Field.
