RECAP | Otters lose Sunday rubber game to Y'alls
7/10/2022
EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The Evansville Otters lost Sunday's series finale and rubber match to the Florence Y'alls 8-3, but remained only a game back in the Frontier League West Division.
In Sunday's game, two separate three-run innings for the Y'alls proved huge in their road victory, while the Otters lost their second straight game. It was Evansville's first home series loss since Opening Week in May.
Evansville kicked off the game well, getting their first four men on base. They scored the game's first run on an RBI fielder's choice by Zach Biermann in the first inning.
But the top of the second bent in Florence's favor as Axel Johnson hit a three-run home run, his second long ball of the series.
The Otters got within a run in the third, once again capitalizing on an RBI fielder's choice, this time hit by Steven Sensley.
The Y'alls 3-2 lead was immediately expanded in the fourth as Bryant Flete hit a bases-clearing three-run double down the left-field line.
Evansville managed their final run of the contest in the fifth as Jeffrey Baez drove a ball to center field with the bases loaded, scoring a run on the deep sacrifice fly.
The Y'alls grabbed another set of insurance runs in the eighth as Jacob Bowles allowed a pair of runs on back-to-back RBI hits.
The 8-3 scoreline held to the end.
The win went to Kent Klyman in relief, his second win of 2022. Ryan O'Reilly fell to 4-3, allowing six runs on six hits in 3.1 innings.
Elijah MacNamee made his return to the lineup Sunday, recording two hits in the game.
Evansville hits the road for a quick three-game midweek series at Schaumburg this week, with Tuesday night's series opener starting at 6:30 p.m. Coverage begins on the Evansville Otters YouTube page at 6:20 p.m.
