7/9/2022
EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Evansville Otters starting pitcher Brett Adcock had a brilliant performance of 14 strikeouts Saturday night, but the Florence Y'alls took the win over the Otters, 7-0.
Adcock for Evansville and Jonaiker Villalobos for Florence impressed in the game early - each commanding the strike zone with their breaking pitches.
Adcock quickly racked up double-figure strikeouts before the sixth inning.
The Y'alls broke into Adcock's day in the sixth, capitalizing on an error from Anthony Torreullas.
A fielder's choice from Brennan Price kicked off the scoring, scoring Ray Zuberer. One batter later, Anthony Brocato brought another run home with an RBI single. Directly after, Axel Johnson hit a two-run home run, blowing the game out to a 4-0 Florence lead.
Adcock's day ended after seven innings, just after his 14th strikeout. Adcock's 14 strikeouts were two off the Otters' single-game record of 16, which has been achieved twice in franchise history.
In the eighth, Florence added to their lead, grabbing a trio of runs off Jake Polancic. Price brought home his second run of this game, this time due to an error by George Callil.
Shortly after, Brocato scored on a passed ball, adding the sixth run to the Y'all total. Finally, an Andres Rios RBI single took Florence to a seven-run advantage.
Adcock received the loss, his first loss of 2022. His 14 strikeouts were the most by an Evansville pitcher this season. He allowed four runs on seven hits, all four runs unearned.
The win went to Villalobos, who pitched a solid seven full innings, surrendering three hits and no runs.
Drake Nightengale appeared in the ninth inning for Evansville, his first appearance of 2022. He allowed two walks but no hits or runs.
The loss sets up a Sunday evening rubber match between Florence and Evansville, first pitch scheduled from Bosse Field at 5:05 p.m.
