RECAP | Otters score 12 in Game Two win, head to Washington up 2-0

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (Sept. 16, 2026) - The Evansville Otters (2-0) continued their offensive onslaught in Game Two of the Frontier League Midwest Conference Finals against the Washington Wild Things (0-2) on Wednesday night, 12-3.

Garret Simpson made his first start of the playoffs for Evansville against Kobe Foster for Washington.

Washington got the scoring started with a run in the top of the first inning. Evansville tied the game in the third inning on a Sam Linscott solo home run then took the lead in the fourth with a Jon Ponder RBI single.

The Otters started pulling away in the fifth inning, bringing in five runs on six hits to make it 7-1. LG Castillo, Blake Robertson and Sam Linscott picked up an RBI each and Ponder drove in two more.

Evansville gave the Wild Things deja vu in the sixth inning, bringing in five more runs on six more hits to put them in blowout territory, putting them up 12-1. All six hits in the frame were singles as the Otters recorded 13 singles out of their 17 total hits.

Simpson was phenomenal when the Otters needed a long start after throwing seven bullpen arms in Game One. He went six innings, allowed only two runs and earned the quality start as well as the win.

Washington scored one in the eighth and one in the ninth, but it was too far out of reach for the Wild Things as the Otters are now one win away from advancing to the Frontier League Championship Series.

Five Otters recorded multi-hit games with Amani Jones and Ponder grabbing three hits, with Linscott going 4-for-5. Ponder and Linscott both drove in four runs in the 12-run performance.

Evansville continues with the Frontier League Midwest Conference Finals on Friday with Game Three against the Wild Things at 6:05 p.m. CT at EQT Park. The Otters lead the best-of-five series 2-0 as the series heads to Pennsylvania.
