EVANSVILLE, Ind. (Sept. 8, 2026) - The Evansville Otters are excited to announce that LG Castillo has been awarded the final Frontier League Player of the Week award of the 2026 regular season, becoming the first Otter this year to win the award.
In five games this week against the Down East Bird Dawgs, Castillo went 12-for-21 with four doubles, one triple and four RBI. He had a stretch of nine hits in nine at-bats during the series and went 5-for-5 on September 3, becoming the fourth Otter this season with a five-hit game.
In 74 games this season, Castillo finished with a .336 batting average, tying Carlos Brackley in 2004 and Eric Joseph in 1998 for the fifth-highest average in a single season in Otters history. He also picked up nine home runs and 59 RBI, finishing just shy of the century mark with 99 hits.
Castillo is in his first season with the Otters in 2026, joining the squad in mid-May. He was originally drafted in the 17th round of the 2017 MLB Draft by the Milwaukee Brewers out of Lancaster Central High School. He would spend four seasons in the Brewers organization, reaching the High-A Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in 2021.
He played a part of the 2022 season with the Washington Wild Things before spending four seasons in the American Association with the Gary SouthShore RailCats, becoming an All-Star in 2024 and finishing top five in hits (336), games played (331), RBI (162) and HR (20) in franchise history.
