RECAP | Castillo's five hits help Otters win rain-shortened game

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (Sept. 5, 2026) - The Evansville Otters (61-40) had a great game all-around as they took game five of six against the Down East Bird Dawgs (48-53) on Saturday night, 6-1.
Garret Simpson took the hill for Evansville against Spencer Johnston for Down East.
The Bird Dawgs would score first in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI double.
Evansville took their first lead of the day in the top of the fourth, bringing home three runs on four singles, the bottom three in the order all picking up an RBI each.
The Otters brought in a fourth run in the seventh inning with a Dennis Pierce RBI single. A fifth run scored in the eighth on T.J. Salvaggio’s second RBI of the day and LG Castillo made it six with an RBI double that scored Amani Jones from first base.
With the RBI single, Pierce has collected six RBI in his three games since returning from the injured list on Thursday night.
Simpson threw five innings of one-run ball and got his ninth victory of the season. Dylan Zentko, Joe Morrissey and Alex Valdez all tossed scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
With the bottom of the ninth about to start, the rain quickly came down in buckets, causing the game to end a half-inning early.
