RECAP | Otters clinch playoff spot despite dropping middle game

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The Evansville Otters (58-37) clinched their spot in the 2026 Frontier League Playoffs despite falling in game two against the Lake Erie Crushers (39-55) on Saturday night, 8-3.
Joan Gonzalez was on the bump for his third start in Evansville of the season against Jack Eisenbarger for the Crushers.
Lake Erie brought two runs across in each of the first two innings to take a 4-0 lead early.
A Chris Kwitzer two-run home run made it close in the fourth inning. They brought one more across in the sixth inning on an Amani Jones RBI single to make it a one-run game.
Gonzalez would settle down after the first two frames, throwing four straight scoreless innings and finishing a full six.
Lake Erie would pull away later on, scoring one in the seventh and three in the ninth. Brandyn Sittinger would get the ninth and clinch a win in game two.
Evansville is now 58-37, but with Windy City’s loss to Mississippi, they have clinched a spot in the 2026 Frontier League Playoffs, the 15th postseason appearance in franchise history. They are still six games ahead of the Y’alls for the first Wild Card spot with Florence’s loss against Washington.
The Otters look to win their last home series of the regular season tomorrow against the Crushers at 6:35 p.m. CT at EVSC’s Historic Bosse Field.
