RECAP | Otters win franchise-record 58th game to open final homestand
EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The Evansville Otters (58-36) recorded their franchise-record 58th win, taking game one of the series against the Lake Erie Crushers (38-55) on Friday night, 7-2.
Ryan Wiltse and Edwin Sanchez would face off as the starters, both of them making their third starts against their respective opponents.
Lake Erie brought a run home in the first inning, with the Otters immediately responding in the bottom half. Sam Linscott hit a bases-clearing double that would put Evansville in front 3-1.
They continued the offensive onslaught with one more run in the second inning and two in the third, Linscott driving in two more runs on his seventh home run of the season.
Wiltse would throw his sixth quality start of the season, going six innings and giving up just one unearned run to get his ninth win of the season.
Dylan Zentko came in against a lefty-heavy lineup and threw two scoreless innings out of the bullpen. Nate Wohlgemuth entered for the ninth inning and got the last three outs to give Evansville the win.
Linscott drove in a season-high five RBI, with him and three other Otters recording multi-hit games. Wiltse’s hot stretch since the All-Star Break continues as his ERA in August drops to 2.25.
Evansville is now 58-36, taking only 94 games to break the franchise record for wins in a season. They are now six games ahead of the Y’alls for the first Wild Card spot with Florence’s loss against Washington. With the Otters' win, their magic number to clinch a spot in the 2026 Frontier League Playoffs drops to two with eight games remaining.
The Otters look to win their last home series of the regular season tomorrow against the Crushers at 6:35 p.m. CT at EVSC’s Historic Bosse Field.
