RECAP | Otters fall in series opener at Schaumburg
EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The Evansville Otters (56-35) fell in game one of the road series against the Schaumburg Boomers (49-42) on Tuesday night, 4-1.
Garret Simpson made his third start against Schaumburg against former Otter Ross Thompson for the Boomers.
Schaumburg brought a run in to start the scoring, a sacrifice fly in the first inning giving them the early lead.
Evansville tied the game in the top of the second inning with an RBI single by Jon Ponder.
The one run was all the offense the Otters produced, as the Boomers scored one in the fourth inning and two in the fifth to take a 4-1 advantage.
Both pitching staffs combined for four scoreless innings to end the game. Dylan Zentko was the only Otter out of the bullpen as he threw 3.1 scoreless innings.
Evansville is now 56-35 and 1-3 against Schaumburg at Wintrust Field. They are still 5.5 games ahead of the Y’alls for the first Wild Card spot with Florence’s loss to Lake Erie. With the Otters' loss and Windy City’s win, their magic number to clinch a spot in the 2026 Frontier League Playoffs remains at four with 11 games remaining.
Evansville will try to even the series against the Boomers tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. CT at Wintrust Field.
