POTW | Cerda named Frontier League Pitcher of the Week
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Evansville Otters are excited to announce that RHP Junior Cerda has been recognized as the Frontier League’s Pitcher of the Week for the week of August 18-23.
Across four appearances this week, Cerda continued his dominance as Evansville’s closer. In three and a third innings pitched, Cerda grabbed strikeouts on seven of the 10 total outs he recorded. He picked up three saves during the week, bringing his season total to 18, good for second-best in the Frontier League.
Cerda has pitched in 31 games for the Otters this season, including three starts. He has clocked 44.1 innings of work, with a 4-1 record and a 3.45 ERA. Cerda has struck out 52 batters this season, while only allowing 14 walks.
Cerda is in his first season with the Otters in 2026. The righty signed with the Diamondbacks out of the Dominican Republic in 2020. After not playing in 2020 due to COVID-19, he played for three seasons in the Arizona organization, reaching High-A Hillsboro in 2024. He spent last season in the American Association with the Kansas City Monarchs and the Gary SouthShore RailCats.
The Otters head to Schaumburg tomorrow evening to open a three-game set against the Boomers, who currently lead the Midwest Conference’s West Division. Evansville enters the series two games back of the Washington Wild Things for the Central Division lead.
The Evansville Otters are the 2006 and 2016 Frontier League champions.
