RECAP | Otters win big series despite dropping finale
EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The Evansville Otters (53-34) were shut out in game three of the series against Washington Wild Things (56-30) on Thursday night, 4-0.
Landon Willeman made his third start of the season against Washington, facing Drew Stegura, making his fifth start of the season.
The Wild Things scored in the first inning on an RBI groundout.
They would score three more in the third inning, capped off by a two-run home run to make it 4-0 early.
That was all the offense Washington needed, as Stegura went seven scoreless innings with nine strikeouts to record his second straight quality start.
Willeman would settle down after giving up the three runs, eventually going seven innings himself, a new season-high to go along with seven strikeouts, his highest strikeout total in a start this year.
Mack Anglin and Landon Ginn would throw a scoreless eighth and ninth to cap off the Wild Things' shutout win.
The Otters are now 53-34, dropping game three but still winning the series. They end the season-series with Washington split 6-6 for the second straight season.
The Otters start another huge series at home tomorrow, game one against the Florence Y’alls starting at 6:35 p.m. CT at EVSC’s Historic Bosse Field.
