RECAP | Otters score early and often to win rubber match
EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The day was hot, but the Evansville Otters' (51-33) offense was hotter in the rubber match against the Lake Erie Crushers (33-49), winning the series on Sunday afternoon, 11-6.
Colby Morse made his sixth start of the season for Evansville against the left-hander Edwin Sanchez.
The Otters got offense early, Marcos Gonzalez’s 10th home run of the season making it 2-0 in the first inning.
They would bring in three more in the second inning. After a trio of walks, Logan Brown brought in two of them with a single to make it 5-0.
Lake Erie wouldn’t go down without a fight, bringing home one run in the third inning and two in the fourth.
Evansville had another three-run inning in the fourth. T.J. Salvaggio hit his third home run in his last five games alongside another RBI from Brown and Gonzalez to put the Otters back up by five.
The Crushers scored one in the fifth and one in the sixth as they tried to keep themselves in the game.
Both teams scored one more run each as the bullpens settled the offenses down, as Chase Kriebel and Joe Morrissey came out of the bullpen and finished the win off for Evansville.
The Otters are now 51-33, clinching at least a .500 record on the season. Ponder, Brown and Gonzalez all had three-hit games, the latter two driving in three runs each.
Evansville has an off-day tomorrow before heading back to Washington to take on the Wild Things on Tuesday starting at 6:05 p.m. CT at EQT Park.
