RECAP | Otters fall in back-and-forth middle game
EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The Evansville Otters (50-33) dropped a close game with multiple lead changes in game two of three against the Lake Erie Crushers (33-48) on Saturday night, 11-9.
Landon Willeman was on the bump for Evansville as Fraynel Nova toed the rubber for the Crushers.
The Otters scored first in the second inning on a Chris Kwitzer double.
Lake Erie would score four in the fourth inning to make it 4-1. Evansville brought themselves within two in the bottom half with a T.J. Salvaggio RBI single.
Evansville scored two in the sixth inning and two in the seventh to put them ahead, LG Castillo scoring on a passed ball to give the Otters a 6-5 lead.
Lake Erie brought three runs across in the eighth inning and got the lead back again, a two-run double making it 8-6.
With the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth inning, Marcos Gonzalez shot one the other way into the left field corner, scoring all three runs and putting Evansville on top, 9-8.
The Crushers would grab three more runs in the ninth and held the Otters off the board in the bottom half to take game two.
The Otters are now 50-33, ending both their five-game winning streak and seven-game winning streak at home. Salvaggio had another three-hit game, while Gonzalez and Logan Brown picked up multiple RBI.
Evansville plays the rubber match against the Crushers starting at 12:35 p.m. CT at EVSC’s Historic Bosse Field on Sunday afternoon.
