RECAP | Otters use power to win seventh straight home game
EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The Evansville Otters (50-32) won their fifth-straight game and seventh-straight contest at home as they took game one of three against the Lake Erie Crushers (32-47) on Friday night, 4-2.
Ryan Wiltse got the start for the Otters against Alex Garbrick for Lake Erie.
A double steal in the first inning would score the first run of the day for the Crushers.
The score would score until the fifth inning, with both pitchers dueling it out. The Otters took the lead in the bottom of the fifth off of back-to-back home runs by Dennis Pierce and Chris Kwitzer, only the third time Evansville has gone back-to-back this season.
They would add another in the sixth off the bat of Kwitzer, as his single brought in LG Castillo to make it 3-1.
Wiltse finished with six innings of one-run ball, good for his fifth quality start of the season.
Another solo home run made it 4-1, Marcos Gonzalez sending the first pitch of the bottom of the eighth inning over the left field wall for his ninth of the year.
Nolan Thebiay and Joe Morrissey each threw scoreless frames in the seventh and eighth. Alex Valdez got the ninth, where the Crushers would bring a run across, but were eventually shut down by Valdez.
The Otters are now 50-32, their seventh straight home victory a new season-high. They are now three wins away from beating their win total from 2023, the last season Evansville advanced to the Frontier League Playoffs.
Evansville looks to tie a season-high with its sixth-straight win in game two against the Crushers starting at 6:35 p.m. CT at EVSC’s Historic Bosse Field on Saturday night.
