RECAP | Morse delivers 4th straight quality start as Otters win opener
EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The Evansville Otters (47-32) got another quality start from Colby Morse as the long ball led the way in a game one win against the Gateway Grizzlies (36-43) on Tuesday night, 6-0.
Morse was up against Blake Peyton, who was facing the Otters for the fourth time this season.
The first runs were scored in the third inning, with T.J. Salvaggio’s 11th home run of the season making it 2-0.
Another two-run home run was hit in the next frame, Dennis Pierce punching his 13th of the season over the right field wall.
Logan Brown joined the party in the seventh inning, hitting his fifth home run just over the left field corner wall to make it 6-0.
Morse continued his dominance in his first professional season, throwing seven scoreless innings for the third time in five starts and recording his fourth straight quality start.
Alex Valdez and Nate Wohlgemuth got the last two innings and put two zeroes on the board to give the Otters the win.
Evansville is now 47-32, clinching the season-series against Gateway. This is their third nine-inning shutout and eighth overall this season.
The Otters play game two tomorrow against the Grizzlies starting at 6:35 p.m. CT at EVSC’s Historic Bosse Field.
