POTW | Valdez named Frontier League Pitcher of the Week
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Evansville Otters are excited to announce that RHP Alex Valdez has been recognized as the Frontier League’s Pitcher of the Week for the week of August 4-9.
Across four appearances this week, Valdez pitched six complete innings of scoreless ball, with only one hit and one walk allowed. He struck out six batters and held opponents to a .053 batting average across those appearances.
This season, Valdez leads Otters’ relievers with a 3.16 ERA across 37 games pitched. In 42.2 innings of work, he has allowed 15 earned runs on 30 hits. Valdez has struck out 35 batters, while only walking 11. He is the only active Otter pitcher with a WHIP below 1.00 (.960).
Valdez is in his third season with the Otters in 2026. The Dominican Republic native played in the Diamondbacks affiliation from 2017 to 2022, splitting time between the Arizona Complex League and Single-A Visalia.
He is spent time with the Kansas City Monarchs of the American Association in the second half of 2022 and all of 2023. He was traded to Evansville before the 2024 season, where he had a 1.26 ERA in 14.1 IP. Last year, he pitched 45 IP to a 3.40 ERA, hit 52 strikeouts, ranking second among Otters relievers.
The Otters are back at home for a six-game homestand beginning on Tuesday night at 6:35 p.m. CT against the Gateway Grizzlies. Tuesday is a Fifth Third Bank $2 Tuesday, where fans can take advantage of $2 hot dogs, water, popcorn and 12 oz Busch Light drafts.
The Evansville Otters are the 2006 and 2016 Frontier League champions.
