RECAP | Otters use team effort for blowout finale win
EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The Evansville Otters (46-32) turned the tides offensively as they took game three of the series against the Washington Wild Things (53-25) on Sunday evening, 10-1.
Ryan Wiltse made his third start against Washington this season against Jack Brodsky who was facing the Otters for the first time.
A wild safety squeeze from Logan Brown that saw Jon Ponder score on an errant throw to second put Evansville on top early.
Two RBI singles from Marcos Gonzalez and LG Castillo brought three more runs across in the third inning to make it 4-0.
Wiltse was dominant in his start, pitching six scoreless innings and earning his team-high fourth quality start of the season, as well as his sixth victory of the year.
The Otters weren’t done offensively, as Blake Robertson and Dennis Pierce hit home runs in the top of the seventh inning to make it 7-0.
They would enter blowout territory in the next offensive frame, scoring three more runs while the bullpen kept up where Wiltse left off.
Washington would bring in a run in the bottom of the ninth, but Junior Cerda would close things out and give the Otters the win.
Evansville is now 46-32, handing Washington their first home loss on a Sunday this season. Four Otters had multi-hit games with T.J. Salvaggio going 3-for-3, reaching base in all five of his at-bats.
The Otters have an off-day tomorrow before the first game of a six-game homestand on Tuesday, game one against the Gateway Grizzlies starting at 6:35 p.m. CT at EVSC’s Historic Bosse Field.
