RECAP | Otters split doubleheader, series with 'Bolts
EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The Evansville Otters (42-29) split both the doubleheader and the four-game series against the Windy City ThunderBolts (33-36), dropping game one 5-4 but winning game two 2-0.
Ryan Wiltse took the mound for the Otters against A.J. Campbell for the ‘Bolts in game one.
The Otters would score in the first inning again, but Windy City tied the game in the second inning on a Robbie Ayers single.
After Evansville took the lead back in the top of the fourth, the ThunderBolts responded in the bottom half with three runs to take a 4-2 lead.
A two-run double from Blake Robertson tied the game in the top of the fifth inning and it would remain scoreless until the seventh, where Carlos Pena hit a walk-off sacrifice fly to give the ‘Bolts the game one victory.
Game two was a masterclass in pitching from Evansville, as they shut out Windy City and held them to only three hits.
Logan Brown’s two-run single in the third inning was all the scoring the Otters needed, as Landon Willeman finished with five scoreless innings and five strikeouts.
Anthony Tomczak struck out the side in the sixth inning and Junior Cerda recorded his 12th save of the season to give the Otters a game two victory.
Evansville is now 42-29, splitting the four-game series but winning the season-series against the ThunderBolts 8-4.
The Otters have an off-day tomorrow before another four-game series, this time at home against the Joliet Slammers starting Tuesday at 6:35 p.m. CT at EVSC’s Historic Bosse Field.
