RECAP | Otters use team effort to win fifth straight road game
EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The Evansville Otters (41-27) had a great all-around performance as they took game one of the four-game series against the Windy City ThunderBolts (33-36) on Friday night, 6-1.
Dylan Zentko made his second start of the season for Evansville against Tyler Biddinger for the ThunderBolts.
The Otters extended their streak of scoring in the first inning to seven games, bringing in two runs on a double from Blake Robertson. Windy City brought in a run in the bottom half, but that was all the offense they had in game one.
Evansville brought home two more in the third inning to make it 4-1.
Zentko finished his start with four innings of one-run ball. Nolan Thebiay was the first man out of the bullpen and he would throw three hitless innings, tying his season-long in an outing this season.
Chris Kwitzer would extend the lead further in the top of the seventh inning with a two-run opposite field home run, his first as an Otter.
Chase Kriebel and Alex Valdez got the last two innings and further shut down the ‘Bolts offense.
Evansville pitching held the bottom six in Windy City’s order to 1-for-20 at the plate.
Sam Linscott, Robertson and Kwitzer all recorded multi-hit games, with Robertson and Kwitzer each also having multi-RBI nights.
The Otters are now 41-27, breaking a streak of seven straight series-opening losses. After winning the final four games of the Mississippi series last week, tonight’s win was the fifth straight road victory for Evansville.
A long day of baseball awaits the Otters as they play a split doubleheader of two 9-inning contests tomorrow against the ThunderBolts, starting game one at 1:05 p.m. CT and game two at 6:05 p.m. CT at Ozinga Field.
