OTTERS OFFENSE, POWERFUL PITCHING FUEL 9-1 WIN

05/10/2012 8:00 PM -
(FLORENCE, Kentucky) – The Evansville Otters stayed undefeated (2-0-1) during spring training with a 9-1 victory at the Florence Freedom on Thursday night.

The scoring started in the top of the first inning when Evansville rallied for a pair of runs. Outfielder Ryde Rodriguez brought one of the runs home on an infield single and first baseman Nick Schwaner scored another on a line-drive single to center field.

After the Otters again in the second inning, the Florence Freedom trailed Evansville 3-0.

It wouldn't get any easier for the home town fans as Evansville then batted around in the third inning to the tune of six runs. Kentucky native Troy Frazier hit a two-run double off the left field wall and infielder Frank Martinez scored another pair of runs with a single in his second at-bat of the inning.

It was not all about the offense though as the Evansville pitching staff also sparkled. Starter Matt Crim pitched three scoreless innings with a trifecta of strikeouts and the bullpen allowed just a single run over the remaining seven scheduled innings.

Infielder Frank Martinez finished 3 for 3, reaching base five times and driving in a pair of runs.

The Evansville Otters play another exhibition game tomorrow, May 11th at Historic Bosse Field. It is the 8th annual Jacob's Village benefit game with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 pm. General admission price is $4.00 as reserved seats will be selling for $6.00.
