(EVANSVILLE, Indiana) – Pitcher Steve Raburn is returning to the Frontier League after signing a 2012 contract with the Evansville Otters on Thursday morning.
Raburn, a right-handed pitcher from Georgia, pitched in eight games with the Normal CornBelters in 2010. He will be reunited with Otters pitching Coach Brooks Carey, who guided Raburn to a 1.29 earned run average and nearly a strikeout per inning for the CornBelters.
“He has the great stuff that you look for with a 6’6’” body, a low 90s fastball, and a good secondary slider,” said Carey. “If he throws for us in Evansville like the way he did in Normal, this is going to be a really good pickup.”
After his recent release by the Toronto Blue Jays, Raburn called Carey about playing for him again and is already looking forward to the summer in Evansville.
“This is a great opportunity,” Raburn said. “I hope to put up good numbers like I did in Normal and hopefully can sign with another affiliated team before the season is over.”
Opening Day for the Otters at historic Bosse Field is Friday, May 18, 2012, when Evansville hosts the Washington Wild Things. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. CDT, and season tickets are on sale now.
