The Evansville Otters have announced the signing of two new players today.
The team added left-handed hitting first baseman Steve Caseres from the Royals organization (Wilmington) and left-handed throwing reliever Sean McKeown (Marist College).
Caseres joins the Otters from the Kansas City Royals franchise where he played first base for Kane County and Wilmington this year. Steve is from New City, New York and originally played three seasons for the Los Angeles Dodgers organization, being drafted in the 9th round of the 2008 Amateur Draft. Caseres is expected to add a power bat to the lineup for Evansville and will be seeing time at first base as well.
McKeown just completed his senior year at Marist College where he appeared in 15 games, while starting in 7 for the Red Foxes. The Hillsborough, New Jersey native was 6-1 this spring season with a 1.69 earned run average and a save. Batters hit just .188 against him. Sean is expected to add another versatile left-handed arm to the bullpen for Evansville.
Both Caseres and McKeown are active for tonight's game at the Traverse City Beach Bums. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. EST from Wuerfel Park in Michigan.
In a corresponding move, the Evansville Otters have released corner infielder/outfielder P.J. Sequeira (.228 batting average, 1 home run, 7 runs batted in) and placed right-handed pitcher Ryne Purcell (right shoulder strain) on the 7-day disabled list.
