OTTERS BLAST MINERS 9-1

05/15/2011 1:00 AM -
The Evansville Otters defeated the Southern Illinois Miners 9-1 yesterday in Paducah, Kentucky. The contest was scheduled for 14 innings because of a rain-shortened affair on Friday but was again cut short by another cell of storms on Saturday.
Otters outfielder Vinnie Scarduzio finished 2 for 3 with a two run home run, an RBI double, and a pair of walks in the win.
Second baseman Joe Spiers also reached base four times in the game including three singles, one of which scored two runs.
Evansville also saw a strong pitching performance from starter Wayde Kitchens who allowed no runs on just three hits. He totaled four strikeouts as well. Relievers Drew Erwin, Brandon Ritchie, and Eric Massingham each threw an inning as well for the victory.
The Evansville Otters improve to 3-1 in exhibition games this year and have one more scheduled for Tuesday night at the Southern Illinois Miners. First pitch is scheduled for 10:00 a.m.
