(YPSILANTI, Mich.) – The Evansville Otters brought the tying run to the plate in the top of the ninth inning but closer P.J. Zocchi struck out Pat Rose to end the game in a 12-9 win for the Oakland County Cruisers.
Evansville scored four runs in the first inning as Frank Meade hit an RBI double and Brandon Cohen hit another 3-run home run, but Oakland County rallied back for 11 unanswered runs.
The Cruisers started the comeback in the bottom of the third inning as Martin Parra tied up the game on a grand slam and the next batter Jimmy Baker hit a solo home run to take the 5-4 lead.
Otters starter Chris Peters stayed in for the next inning but Oakland County put up another four runs to pull further ahead.
The Otters didn’t go quietly though. Evansville was down 11-4 in the top of the 7th inning when the Otters offense went on the attack. Another four run outburst brought the team within three runs and in a position for another rally in the ninth inning.
Down 12-8, pinch hitter Billy Killian singled in another run, bringing up the tying run to the plate. P.J. Zocchi buckled down to retire Pat Rose and end the game, a 12-9 win for the Oakland County Cruisers.
The win moves Oakland County to 8-7 on the season while the loss ends the three-game winning streak for the Evansville Otters.
Evansville’s next game will take place on Tuesday night when the Otters are back home to begin a six game homestand against the Traverse City Beach Bums. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 PM.
