Catcher Mike Dobre of Pompano Beach, Fla., is the latest addition to the Otters’ 2010 roster. As a rookie in 2009, Dobre hit .409 in 30 games with Texarkana of the independent Continental League in 2009. He drove in 14 runs and stole 12 bases.
As a senior at D-II Mars Hill (N.C.) College, Dobre hit .396 in 47 games in 2009. The second-team All-South Atlantic Conference selection hit seven home runs with 38 RBIs. Dobre hit .467 and drove in 35 runs in 45 games as a junior. He stole 32 bases in 39 attempts in two seasons at Mars Hill.
Dobre, an All-Maryland Junior College choice and an All-District first team selection at Garrett College in 2007, joins 2009 Frontier League All-Star Frank Meade and newcomer Brandon Underwood behind the plate for the Otters.
