08/16/2009 8:16 PM -
The Otters came up short Sunday night at Bosse Field, falling to the Lake Erie Crushers 8-3 in the rubber game of a three game series.
Lake Erie jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning thanks to a Gordon Gronkowski two-run homer, his seventeenth of the year.
Otters’ catcher Frank Meade would tie things up with a sacrifice fly in the first and his thirteenth home run of the year in the third.
The Crushers plated three in the top of the fourth on a two-run single off the bat of Brad Griffiths and an RBI double by Wayne Bond. Bond would add a two-run single in the sixth inning as the Crushers extended their lead to 8-3.
Otters' starter John Ducey (3-8) surrendered all eight earned runs in 5 1/3 innings. He walked one and struck out one. Crushers’ starter Cardoza Tucker (2-0) gave up three runs (two earned) in five innings.
The Otters have an off day Monday before welcoming in the Midwest Sliders for the first of three games Tuesday at 7:05pm CDT.
