(EVANSVILLE - IN) --- Catcher
Brett Chamberlain hit a home run and recorded the game-winning hit in the 3-2
Evansville Otters win over the River City Rascals on Monday night.
Chamberlain contributed to the first run of the game with a solo home run to left field in the second inning. It was the third homer this season for the second-year Otter. Ahead 1-0, Evansville then padded their lead with a solo home run from
Luis Uribe two batters later. It was the first professional home run for Uribe as the Otters hopped ahead by a pair of runs.
Evansville starter
Bryce Morrow held the two run lead until the sixth inning when River City scored a pair of runs to tie the game. The first came on a Morrow wild pitch, then first baseman Gerardo Avila smacked an RBI single to right field, evening up the score.
Neither team was able to score again until the bottom of the tenth. Tied at two, shortstop
Greg Fontneot hit a lead off single to right field, then was able to successfully steal second base. The next batter, Chamberlain, worked himself into an 0-2 count before ripping a single towards the right field line, scoring Fontenot and winning the game.
The Otters mobbed Chamberlain on the infield as Evansville has now won back to back games. The River City Rascals fall to 16-13 with the loss as the Evansville Otters imprve to 11-18 with the victory.
Neither starting pitcher factored in to the decision. Morrow threw 7.1 innings, allowing two runs on four hits for Evansville. The right-hander struck out seven batters on the night. River City starter Tony Marsala also surrendered two runs in 6.1 innings.
Pitcher
Tyree Hayes (1-2) earns the win. The righty did not give up a run in his single inning of work.
Patrick Crider also had a strong outing going 1.2 innings without giving up a hit. Closer Dustin Umberger (1-2) is the losing pitcher for River City. The Pennsylvania native allowed one run in 1.2 innings.
Evansville will be looking for their first sweep of the season tomorrow against the River City Rascals. First pitch is scheduled for 12:05 p.m. on Day Camp Day. Lefty
Matt Zielinski (2-2, 4.00 Earned Run Average) will start for the Otters and he will be opposed by righty Keli'i Zablan (2-2, 2.55 ERA).
