OTTERS OFFENSE SILENCED

July 4, 2008, Evansville, Ind. – In a game that featured only three runs, Evansville came out on the short end as they fell to Rockford 2-1. The loss was Evansville’s fifth straight. With the game tied at one in the top of the ninth inning, Rockford’s Bryan Cook doubled to deep right-center to plate the go ahead run. The Otters had their chances but stranded twelve men on base and eight of them were left in scoring position. Evansville wasted a good start from Adam Rogers who went six innings and gave up only four hits. The Otters head back out to the diamond for game two of their series against Rockford on Saturday at 7:05 CDT.

OTTERS TO HOST WEDDING CEREMONY

July 4, 2008, Evansville, Ind. – Prior to this afternoons 3:05 first pitch between the Evansville Otters and the Rockford Riverhawks, Bosse Field will host an Independence Day wedding ceremony that is sure to be one of a kind. With the wedding party occupying the dugouts and the groom “warming up in the bullpen”, Jim Waller and Krista Wilson will be getting hitched at home plate inside Historic Bosse Field, complete with Evan the Otter as the bride’s escort from center field. At the conclusion of the ceremony, Jim and Krista will celebrate by throwing out the first pitch. The ceremony is slated for 2:30 today with the Otters and Riverhawks game to follow at 3:05; Evansville native Adam Rogers will make this Independence Day start.

OTTERS SWEPT

July 3, 2008, Evansville, Ind. – Southern Illinois finished off their sweep of the Evansville Otters with a 10-0 win. The Miners scored early and often including a four run third and a three run fifth. The Otters pitching staff struck out a season high 14 hitters, but also allowed ten hits and seven walks. Brett Scarpetta (2-2) pitched six scoreless innings and allowed only four hits to get the win. In his Otters debut, Luke Hetherington, went 2-5 to lead the Evansville attack.

Evansville heads back to the field on Friday as they open a new series with the Rockford Riverhawks at 3:05. The Evansville native Adam Rogers will get the Independence Day start against left-hander Taylor Sinclair for Rockford.

Frontier League Announces All-Stars

The Frontier League is proud to announce the rosters for the 16th Annual Frontier League All-Star Game, to be played at Wuerfel Park in Traverse City, Michigan on Wednesday July 16th, 2008 at 7:05 P.M. The teams will be divided into squads representing the East Division and West Division.

The field managers for the game will be determined by which two clubs are in first place in their respective divisions following play on July 6th, 2008. The two managers will each announce their additional 3 player selections to complete their 24-man roster, as well as their coaching selections on July 7th.

OTTERS FALL SHORT AGAIN

July 2, 2008, Evansville, IN – Evansville dropped their third straight game as they fell 5-4 to Southern Illinois. The Miners took an early 3-0 lead, but the Otters battled back with three in the third inning to tie the game. Southern Illinois came back to push across two runs in the sixth inning that would end up being too much for Evansville to overcome. Ryan Bird (5-3) picked up the win for the Miners going six innings and striking out six. Justin Jordan (4-5) took the loss as he gave up five runs in his six innings of work. Christian Reyes picked up two RBI in his return to the line up. The Otters will return to the field at 7:05 CDT as they try to salvage one game out of the three game series. It’s Thirsty Thursday at Bosse Field, followed by a fireworks show brought to you by Kenny Kent Chevrolet.

MINERS OVERPOWER OTTERS

July 1, 2008, Evansville, IN – The Otters returned home from a six game road trip, and Southern Illinois gave them a rude welcome back. The Miners scored five runs in the second inning on their way to an 8-4 win. The Miners had 13 hits off Evansville, who used five pitchers, only one of which lasted over two innings. Southern Illinois’ starter Reid Price (2-1) struck out six and scattered only five hits in seven innings to get the win. Justin Randall went 2-4 with 2 RBI, and Daniel Burton went 2-5 with a homerun to lead the offense for Evansville.

The Otters head back to the field on Wednesday at 7:05 CDT for game two of the series against the Miners. 2007 All-Star Justin Jordan goes against Ryan Bird for the Miners.

SIXTH INNING SPOILS SWEEP

June 30, 2008, O’Fallon, MO – Evansville got off to another fast start tonight behind some great pitching from Mike Damchuk and an offense that plated five runs in the first four innings with Tom Pennino driving in three of the runs on two two-out hits. A three-run homerun from Luke Barganier made is closer in the third inning, but Evansville was cruising…until the sixth. Back-to-back hits started off the frame and after Damchuk was relieved after an RBI single, Dustin Renfrow (0-2) came out of the pen and was tagged for three hits, including a two-run triple from Jacob Deboer as the Rascals scored six runs to take the lead for good, 9-6.

Evansville begins a nine-game home stand at Bosse Field starting tomorrow night at 7:05 against the Southern Illinois Miners.

OTTERS CONTINUE HOT STREAK

June 29, 2008, O’Fallon, MO – The Otters continued to play their best baseball of the season tonight, jumping out to an early 9-0 lead and cruising the rest of the way by a final of 13-4. Evansville put up a season high 13 runs on a season high 17 hits. Evansville opened up the game in the second, plating eight of the nine runs with two outs, blasting two homeruns, a three-run shot by Daniel Burton and a two-run homer from Isaac Omura. Starting pitcher Adam Rogers (3-2) settled in after giving up four runs (three earned) in the first three innings, throwing seven innings overall, allowing 10 hits, no walks, while striking out five. Evansville goes for the sweep tomorrow night with first pitch set for 7:05 CDT.

OTTERS WIN SECOND STRAIGHT

June 28, 2008, O’Fallon, MO – Evansville pulled out a close one tonight when Jon Lewis got the final batter to pop out to right field with the tying run at second base to pick up his eighth save of the season in an 8-7 win at T.R. Hughes Ballpark. A back and forth game in the early innings was swung the Otters way in the fourth when Evansville plated four runs, three of them on a bases loaded double from Justin Randall. River City tied it up in the fifth at 5-5. Evansville would break out again in the sixth inning, plating thee runs, two on a homerun from Tycen Povey. The Rascals got two runs back on a two-run homerun from A.J. Van Slyke in the bottom of the sixth, but the bullpen would buckle down the rest of the way, as Bradley Blanks threw two scoreless innings to set up the ninth for Lewis. Evansville plays game two of this set tomorrow at 6:05 with Adam Rogers pitching against lefty Scott Fogelson.
